Fabric? – Hell yeah!!!!

Sometimes I get very dishartened with what I do – I don’t think that people realise that I can hear what they say when they are outside my shop – but I hear
– ‘gosh – that’s fabric – won’t last any time’
– ‘really – fabric collars – how silly’
– ‘that’s a funny collar – pretty – but won’t work’
– ‘lovely – but not suitable for my dog’
– ‘soooo not strong enough’
– ‘far too pricy’ (seriously!!)

Then I get a customer that wants to understand what it’s all about – and gets it!

This week (on Tuesday actually) I explained to a customer how my martingale collars really work  – and they took the gamble.  I took 2 totally out of control springers out of the harnesses that were causing their owner a nightmare (and doing nothing for them!) – and fitted them with matringale collars.

Saturday – she came back for the matching leads.

And she said – – – Soooo much better – and – ok – not perfect (who is) – but we can walk down the street properly now -as opposed to being – – – p-u-l-l-l-l-l-l e-d – – – in every which way direction !!!

OK – fabric does not last forever – emmm – neither does leather.  As  guideline –  my Henry is really tough on his collars and his look really shabby after 3 months or so – but than I don’t look after them – the strength does not deteriate – they just look shabby, dirty and uccky – still work perfectly well though!

But the system works folks – a well fitted Martingale collar will help you regain control over your unruly muts

Talk to me – try it out for yourselves

Just added

Just listed a couple of bandannas in the classic Skull and Crossbones.  This is quickly becoming ‘the fabric of the season’.  It’s funny how there is always one that every one wants!

I bought 2 metres and the pattern is a bit big for collars so it will all end up as bandannas – harness – perhaps a waist coat type thing?

Posh Dog on Facebook

Posh dog now has it’s own facebook page – I thought it would make it easier to find things all together – and easier for me to reach customers – if I took it out of my personal page.  This way you can add your own photos of your Posh Pals directly.

There is also a twitter

And an Instagram account – but I haven’t really got the hang of this yet!!!

Now that I have my time back to myself I am really going to try and get the Posh Dog word out there – any advice would be welcome!

New stuff – well vintage really!

The blog will be quiet this week as I am off on my travels.

I have been gifted a huge load of vintage knitting equipment / patterns / yarns – but I have to go down to Hampshire to collect it all.

I shall be away until midweek – then totally shattered for the rest of the week!

Any orders placed will be posted when I get back – probably Wednesday

Now we will be able to do blankets and more of the really big size jumpers – and just you wait till you see the new ideas I have for the ranges!

Vintage patterns – and knitting them

I have quite a large (and still growing!) collection of all sorts of dog patterns – plus I write my own.  Something I love is the old vintage patterns – and they are very different to the modern patterns we have today.

I have started to re-work a really pretty 3 colour pattern
2014-07-26 23.11.37This pattern is originally from the 1960s – and it is really pretty – light and delicate.  Vintage patterns are much more technically complicated that today’s patterns – there is much more shaping with increases and darts – and they expect you to know and understand how the stitch formations work.  It has taken me a couple of attempts to crack the pattern for this – the pattern is vague to say the least.

These days we are used to a pattern being set out in a certain way – with the abbreviations used explained – and pretty much standard between patterns – evan across brands.

Tackle this – – work an offset fisherman’s rib, with a pattern row alternating a knit row – increasing every other row until you have xx stitches.

Everyone understood the system then – and you just did it!

The advantage was that the pattern I started with was about half a page of a small stitchcraft magazine – when I have finished expanding and re-writing it all – it will be 2 typed pages of A4 sheets.  – And that’s before I start working on the larger sizes!

This is the start of a new ‘Designer’ range for Posh Dog.  They will cost a little more as they are more technical – but will be so totally different to anything available in the market today.

Watch this space.

How about this bad boy!

I am not quite sure which is more scary – opening a new reel of 5000 Moon thread – or realising that the last one did not seem to last all that long considering how big the reel is.

I tend to do all the inside and under stitching ion either of these 2 basic colours – and only match the pattern fabric when I am doing top stitching.  I have found that it cuts down on the quantity of threads you get through – and helps me keep them neat and tidy.

So – sitting – ready cut – on the bench at the moment are loads of sections to make ball toys for your pals

– and I am going to break into these bad boys!

Handmade Posh Dog Fleece Coat – 026.

posh dog fleece coat 026

This is the largest fleece coat I do as standard – any bigger can be made to order!

Handmade fleece Dog coat

Made locally in the Lake District

To fit a larger size dog

Total length of back – bottom edge to neck: 17″
Around chest: 20″ – 24″

Fleece is a great fabric for dog wear.  It’s super soft, cuddly and anti-pill, i.e. no bobbling whatsoever after a wash. It is lightweight – hard-wearing – washable – and water-resistant to keep them dry. Available in a large variety of colours and fun prints!

The front has a velcro fastening – and the band round the middle wraps round the whole dog and coat for extra smugness also has a velcro fastening – quite a long one so you have a bit of adjustment.  The fleece is edged with a contrast strip of fleece for strength and stability.

Fabric composition: 100% Polyester

New Year – New Season – Neeeeeeew Fabrics

As it’s January – everyone is in the jumper mood at the moment.  Even though it has been pretty mild for the time of year – there are still those guys out there that feel the chill – like to be snuggled – are a bit poorly / nursing / elderly – or ‘we have had THE haircut and now it’s a bit chilly’!  Love ’em all.

Quick little sneaky peek of the fabric that I have just bought in for making the spring range of bandannas and collars.

For those Sugar Skull lovers out there – just how cool are these.  The pattern is a bit large for the collars and leads (may do one or two – cos they are so good) – but – bandannas (all sizes) – harnesses (both) – all on the way.  If I don’t have your size listed on the website just ask if I have enough fabric left to make you one.

And fabric for you ‘cutie’ fans – same rules apply.

AND – I have finally finalised the chunky, triangle shape purse for the Walkies collection – and it is just such a fun shape. There will be more added to the website as time allows.
