Busy Bees

This past couple of weeks things have really taken off!!!

We are at the point now where things are selling faster than I can get them listed.  So we are going to try a change of tactics.

This week end I will be working with these fleece fabrics to make coats.

First – we have a couple of novelty patterns

Also a smart Argyle pattern in 3 colour ways

If you would like a certain size – holler out and bag yours now.  kittenandgoat@gmail.com

PS – there is not much of the red left already!

Also – new bandanna fabrics.  I have been looking for a copyright free Super Hero theme for e-v-e-r – and finally I have one – well 2 – green or orange.  The other is a blue ‘nautical’ look dog theme.  Shout out and let me know if you fancy one

Stay Warm

As we all know  – it’s snowed!

And the chill is due to continue.

As you can expect – I have sold loads of jumpers and coats in the past 10 days.  There is still a bit of choice – although not much in the fleece coats!

Drop in to the shop quick!!!

Winter is knocking – – –

– – – – and I have changed the fleece coat pattern a little.

So many of you are now using a body harness – and you want a hole added for you to clip your lead through!!!!

I have dropped the wrap around chest band for a mid side band that has a velcro fastening BOTH sides for extra adjustment.  This means I can add a button hole stitched space to the centre back for your leads!!!!

So from now on – all the new styles listed and any commissions can have a harness ‘buttonhole’ added.

I don’t add a hole as standard – as all harness are different – but – I can add one if you tell me where your harness sits – no extra charge.

Any requests for coats to be delivered before Christmas – shout out now – other wise it will be January deliveries

I am not baking this week.  It has been really quiet in the shop this week and I have winter coat orders starting to com in.

I have new fleece – some novelty prints and some tartan, plaid and Argyle.  Checks are all the rage for this season – you can’t beat a good tartan!

If you have a looooong, skinny dog – or a rOund, short dog and would like me to make to order – I don’t charge extra for commission work – it’s what I am doing every day anyway – just contact me.

If you would like to browse in the SHOP – keep an eye out for the new fleece and waterproof coats.

I will just leave this here

I have to apologise – my posting is all over the place at the moment.  There is so much going on in the shop – and my Fibro / ME is playing up something wicked – I am just not getting through all the jobs.

I have opened the order books for the coming winter coat season and I am filling up already – so shout before I get swamped.  I have just finished this dressing gown for a huge ball of fluff that feels the chill after a bath – and being a real mucky pup – he’s always in the bath!

This one has a back length of 18″ and is made from an 80% cotton towelling so it will soak up the damp.  There is a big, baggy hood so he can get his ears dry too!

The cost of this is £18.50

Something for the big guys

I have to admit that I don’t often make the really big sizes – and these are the biggest I have ever made.

The customer wanted 3 coats – all the same – made to her dogs measurements.

The largest has a back length of 27″ – they are as big as my back board!

They are going to look so smart when they are out and about

Round and round the corner

I have mastered the tiny cornerthe posh dog clothing company waterproof hems quite nicely.  I suppose I don’t really have to add a tiny hem as the vinyl backing make the fabric non fraying – but they are dogs and I think it will make it wear better – and it looks neater.

And I have discovered that if you peg round the front straps with seam pegs and let it rest for a bit – it helps the fabric curl a bit.  I have really taken to these little pegs.  They have one shaped side and one flat side.

AND – before you ask – yes – I did try to use ordinary pegs – but they were too big and cumbersome – and the flat side on the special ones means you can get them right up close to the machine foot to sew.

New Design – Waterproof coat

First – HUGE thank yous to all my furry pals who took part in testing the first design samples for this new coat.

You all loved the idea – and you have come back with several ideas about what to keep and what to change.

So – the final design looks like this

the-posh-dog-clothing-company-water-proof-coatYou liked the idea of the wider tummy band – so that stayed – but you wanted it deeper in the chest – so now it is more roomy with 2 bands of 2″ velcro giving you a bit more adjustment.

You were happy with the the-posh-dog-clothing-company-water-proof-coat-inneroverall shape – and found it wrapped the front end really well.

You also loved the cosy fleece liner – you said it made the coat really cosy and warm as well as waterproof.

Huge thanks to Stephanie over at The Cheap Shop – Tiptree (my fave fabric shop ever) for finding this fabric for me – that I can work on my normal sewing machine – I thought I was going to have to buy a spare one.

I am adding the first one to the shop now – so keep an eye out for more sizes.  If you have a longer – fatter – shorter – thinner dog – I can make a custom size for you.  I have the fabric in green and red – the tummy bands are made in the black as it’s a bit softer and so it’s easy to see.

New waterproof coats in production

There is only 1 sample of these left in the shop – thank you all so much for your feedback.

Overwhelming positive response – and it seems you like the long underbelly strap – but wider for more fitting flexibility and with wide velcro both sides.

So – the final design will be on these lines

the posh dog clothing company waterproofI have the outer fabric in red and green – and all my usual fleece colours for the linings.  The coats will be available in 6 ‘standard’ sizes – but as always I can make to order – longer – wider  – etc – or with the conventional narrow belt if you prefer that.

I will try to get a couple of sizes done each week – but if I haven’t got to your size yet just shout me and I will make it happen.

You can tell I am feeling better can’t you!!!!

Samples

I have some samples ready to test.

I am trailing 2 different fastenings.

the posh dog clothing company waterproof coats1 – similar to the body wrap on the fleece coats – which is very adjustable – but has to be fairly thin.

2 – longer strap under the body covers the tummy – but less flexible as to the sizes.

They will all have a lovely soft fleece lining – so the doggie will stay snug and comfy.

These are available at a special price of just £5 to recover a bit of my fabric costs – all I would like is for you to tell me how the coats stand up to daily wear.

Sew – sew – quick – quick – sew

I have been making progress with my waterproof coats. After a bit of experimenting I am quite pleased with the neatness of my first working sample.

2015-05-08-00-14-11My first attempts were a bit faffy and not very neat – and I needed to work out a better, simpler method.

So now I am creating a small rolled hem round the edge first – still need to practice going round the outside curves – that’s REALLY hard!  Then I am cutting the fleece lining to fit the hemmed shape and adding a double hem to secure it in place.

the posh dog clothing company fleece lined waterproof coats

I have never worked with this type of fabric before – it seems soft and pliable for the dogies – and the fleece will make it nice and cosy.

I am going to add a plain black belly band of some sort – not finalises it yet! – and 2″ velcro for the fastenings.

Samples should be ready next week

Something new

One thing I love about my job is that I never stop learning and doing new things.  At the moment I am learning to use a new type of foot on my sewing machine.

Loads of you have been asking for waterproof coats and my wonderful new supplier has come up with some fabric that I can use on my normal sewing machine.

the posh dog clothing company waterproof coats

The red / green paw print fabric is the waterproof bit for the outside of the coat – it is a heavy weight cotton with a bonded plastic underside – then I am going to line them with a lovely bit of soft fleece.

I have never worked with this sort of fabric before – and I wanted to ad a small hem just so that the coat will wear well and stay neat.  After a couple of experiments I had a brainwave – use a rolled hem foot!  Huge luck – there are a couple in a huge set I bought ages ago – and they actually fit properly – and allow space for the needle (which normally they don’t).  So – here we go – learning a new technique.

the posh dog clothing company waterproof coats

It is going to take me a bit of practice getting round the front arm corners – but it is much neater than the other ways I have tried.

I hope to have a couple of samples ready to try out next week – so keep an eye out.

Posh Dog Fleece Coats

Well I don’t know what’s the matter with the weather these days – snow forecast today they said this morning – and we have already had a spattering of hailstones the past couple of days.

I have just made a few more of the larger size fleece coats.  A bit more ‘sedate’colours – I picked up a job lot from a wholesaler clearing out.  It’s all Oddies Fleece – so it still passes the CE rules.  I have 6 lovely new designs to play with.

Normally at this time of year I am thinking of where to store the jumpers for the summer and what I need to do to start making for next winter.  I think this is the first time I have ever starting making for sale jumpers for May.  I am just finishing a large batch of the Weekend Jumper.  Loads of different sizes and colours made while I was testing the pattern.  They should be ready over the weekend and listed next week.

Just remember – stay snug

Stay snug

It’s still very chilly out there!!!

posh dog special orderEmergency special order for an elderly lady who had just had her coat clipped and was shivering.  I had to make the coat with an extra long chest band as she is a spaniel x lab – short in the body but deep in the chest.

That’s the joy of being able to create everything myself – odd sizes are no problem!

I hope she is feeling more snug today.
